Good news... the brilliant Angèle & Tony, starring Clotilde Hesme, is finally being released on DVD this Friday, after its cinema release in the UK last year.
Even better news... I have a shiny new copy of the DVD to give away, courtesy of Peccadillo Pictures.
If you're wondering what Angèle & Tony is about, read my review here, and my interview with its star, the luminous Clotilde Hesme, here.
TO ENTER, simply leave a comment on this post! Ideally with a French film recommendation for other readers – any film you have enjoyed, whether I have reviewed it or not.
The winner will be chosen at random on Friday 15 February. Good luck, and please share!

I would leave a comment, but I have no idea what to say (other than "keep up the good work!")...
ReplyDeleteHa ha, isn't there a film you've seen recently that you would like to recommend? Thanks for the comment though!
ReplyDeleteIts not been released recently but I like Un amour de jeunesse. I relate to the feeling of the dread of not seeing a loved one for moments though wouldn't go to the same extreme as she did! - @eddieh
ReplyDeleteAmelie is my favourite French film
ReplyDeleteAmelie is also my favourite French film. More recently I liked Tomboy.

Thanks for your comments and recommendations! I particularly enjoyed Un amour de jeunesse, very poignant film.
ReplyDeleteHello, I must admit I an unable to recommend a French film as I don't think I have ever seen one. I only passed my French GCSE because you helped me and worked with me until I had learnt what I needed to - thank you! I have therefore been fearful of watching a film I might not understand. That said perhaps it is time I gave it a try as I watch English TV and films with subtitles since my son was born and when the family are sleeping, and now find it difficult to watch them without the words on the bottom of the screen. And of course I can use your blog to choose the first one - any recommendations on a light french film to get me started?
ReplyDeleteThanks and hope you are well

What a lovely comment, thank you! Made my day :) If you're looking for a light film I would recommend Priceless with Audrey Tautou, which is very glamorous and fun. It's available on Amazon for about £3. Or last year I loved Romantics Anonymous, a really sweet film set in a chocolate factory. You can also get it from Amazon (or equivalent! not that I support their tax dodging!!) It's very feel-good and I gave it to my sister-in-law for her birthday. Let me know how you get on xx
DeleteI loved 'the science of sleep' by michel gondry, a crazy, charming and funny film with one of my fave french actresses charlotte gainsbourg.
ReplyDeleteI love Charlotte Gainsbourg and I've never heard of that film, thank you! Will look it up x
DeleteThis looks like one for me too. More immediately, I'm looking forward to setting aside some time this weekend to watch "Untouchable", which has just arrived in the post from the rental company.
ReplyDeleteUntouchable is brilliant Gillian, enjoy!
DeleteOoh, I loved Untouchable too, great film! My favourite though is probably Etre et Avoir, a year in the life of a one-class school in rural France. Saw a matinée performance of it on a freezing cold day in Edinburgh about ten years ago and it was like stepping into another world for a couple of hours. Lovely :)

Thank you for your comment! I also enjoyed Etre et Avoir, agree it is a lovely film.
DeleteTwo Days in Paris is a great film!! Not completely subtitled but a great watch and a rare gem. A great depiction of French attitude to love and sex: perfect!! And of course La Vien Rose goes without mention....
